Drawing from the success of the previous phases, EFID III focused on three main pillars:

Pillar 1. Network Strengthening/Learning Platform

EFID organised two capacity development workshops to strengthen the community of practitioners and to share learning. The workshop “Towards a Network of Practitioners for Dementia Friendly Communities – innovate, collaborate, accelerate”, was organised on 11-12 March 2015 in Dublin. The workshop “Exchange of practice and development of indicators to capture change” held in Bruges and Aalbeke on 10-11 May 2016, went further than just capacity development; it offered stimulating networking and learning space to reflect on how to demonstrate the impact of different dementia-friendly initiatives around Europe. The Mapping report and collection of DFC case studies were launched at the event.

The Capacity Strengthening Fund (CSF) offered the EFID awardees and other organisations the financial support to develop joint projects and study visits. The Capacity Strengthening Fund has forged new partnerships and new learning opportunities among EFID awardees and other partner organisations.

Pillar 2. Generating Knowledge

The research report and the collection of dementia friendly community case studies commissioned to the Mental Health Foundation (MHF) was released in May 2016. The report and the collection are available here. The report “Mapping dementia-friendly communities across Europe” is a synthesis of a literature review, online survey and telephone interviews. The findings of the research shed light on the diversity and complexity of DFC’s in the different European countries. The report is accompanied by a comprehensive list of case studies on DFCs across Europe, available online: ‘Collection of DFC case studies across Europe’.

Pillar 3. Communication

To spread the community approach to dementia, EFID developed this website and social media profiles. EFID joined a series of conferences and events as well as European partnerships.
